Why train beyond the permit

A permit is not a skill

Defensive Pistol at Guns 2 Ammo in Mesa is a 2.5-hour advanced course, $295 ($265.50 for members). Dates are being scheduled now.

Your Arizona CCW teaches the law. It does not teach you to draw cleanly with your heart rate up, find a second threat, or clear a malfunction in poor light. Those skills only come from structured, coached practice under pressure.

Defensive Pistol is the next step after Basic Handgun and the Arizona CCW: it takes the fundamentals you already have and makes them work when it counts.

Train under stress

Shot timers, movement and decision-making drills build skills that hold up when adrenaline hits, not just on a calm range.

Decisions, not just accuracy

Shoot/no-shoot scenarios teach you to assess before you act, which matters as much as hitting the target.

Low-light reality

Many defensive encounters do not happen in good light. Practice reduced-visibility shooting in a controlled setting.

Safe force-on-force

Scenarios use airsoft conversions under instructor control, with full protective equipment provided.

The curriculum

What the course covers

Two and a half hours on the range, built for experienced carriers. Every student works through the same six skill blocks:

Draw from concealment

A clean, safe draw and presentation from your carry position, then speed and accuracy under a shot timer.

Movement and transitions

Shooting on the move, getting off the line, and transitioning between multiple targets.

Shoot/no-shoot decisions

Target identification and judgment drills that make you assess before you press the trigger.

Low-light shooting

Reduced-visibility shooting techniques practiced in a controlled range environment.

Malfunction clearance

Recognizing and clearing malfunctions fast, without losing focus on the threat.

Force-on-force scenarios

Realistic scenarios with airsoft conversions under instructor control, with protective gear provided.
